ATLANTA - Tractor trailers getting stuck on icy interstates are snarling traffic throughout metro Atlanta as state and local road crews continued to struggle to clear roads of ice and snow.

The Georgia Department of Transportation says tractor trailers are blocking traffic on Interstate 75 south of the city and on I-285 in at least two places. Spokeswoman Jill Goldberg says another tractor trailer is stuck on I-675.

She said the traffic jams are making it difficult for DOT workers to get to the stuck trucks. Goldberg said one snarl took three hours to reach.

Winter weather in other parts of the state have shut down state highways and rural roads because of ice.

Georgia got up to 8 inches of snow as a winter storm passed through the state late Sunday and Monday. Icy roads are expected for several days.
