Sen. Gooch named Deputy Whip

ATLANTA - Freshman State Sen. Steve Gooch of Dahlonega, was appointed Monday as a Deputy Whip by Sen. Cecil Staton (R-Macon), who serves the Senate as Majority Whip. In his role as Deputy Whip, Gooch will assist the Whip's office in ensuring member attendance on the Senate Floor, counting votes and communicating the Republican majority position.

"I'm honored to have been chosen for this distinguished position as I begin my first term in the Senate," said Gooch. "I look forward to working with my fellow legislators to find solutions to some of the major issues facing the state and the people of the 51st District."

As Whip, I appoint several senators to assist us in the work of the Whip's office, which includes the careful review of all legislation that comes before the Senate," said Staton.
