Buford showed it is still very much at the top of the heap in Class AA, while Flowery Branch dominated another opponent from Region 8-AAAA on Friday night in area football action.

Gainesville, North Hall, Lumpkin County, East Jackson, Habersham Central, North Gwinnett and Apalachee also won contests -- and most won comfortably.

Seon Jones ran all over Lovett, as the Wolves blasted their rivals from Atlanta 37-14. Jones finished with a school record 319 yards on 17 carries. He also tacked on two touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Flowery Branch picked up their third shutout of the Region 8-AAAA season, scoring 28 points in the second quarter en route to a 49-0 win over Rockdale County at home.

In Region 8-AAA play, Gainesville used a 50-yard interception return from Michael Norman to help secure a 28-7 defeat of Franklin County in City Park.

North Hall also bounced back from last week's loss to the Red Elephants with a 40-0 pasting of Walnut Grove.

Lumpkin County also kept Johnson winless on the season with big touchdown runs from Ian McIntosh in a 34-13 win at Oakwood.

Chestatee fell at Monroe Area, 27-0, but, in Region 8-AA, East Jackson won its third straight with a 39-12 defeat of Oglethorpe County.

Habersham Central picked up its first win of the season, knocking off Madison County, and, also in Region 8-AAAA, Apalachee kept rolling with a 28-14 win over Heritage.
