ATHENS -- University of Georgia football coach Mark Richt has suspended freshman safety Alec Ogletree for at least one game following a misdemeanor theft charge.

Richt said in a statement Friday that he's disappointed and that Ogletree will miss Saturday's game against Louisiana-Lafayette.

Police Chief Jimmy Williamson says his officers had spoken to Ogletree and that the player planned to turn himself in Friday.

Williamson says the warrant stems from a June incident in which a student reported a scooter helmet missing from a student athlete academic center. Williamson says the helmet was later reported to be in Ogletree's possession. A warrant was issued following an investigation.

Williamson says the 6-foot-3, 215-pound safety from Newnan would be booked on a theft by taking charge and likely released on bond.
