GAINESVILLE - Public transist users in Gainesville and Hall County will have better access to Brenau University and a number of shopping venues starting today.

The Red Rabbit's Route 2 has been reconfigured to give riders better access to Brenau as well as the downtown shopping district, Lakeshore Mall and the shopping district around McEver Road and Dawsonville Highway.

It is the second part of Phase 2 of a 5-year expansion plan for the bus system.

The first and biggest was unveiled a couple of weeks ago and involved Route 7 in Oakwood. It now features stops at Gainesville State College, Lanier Technical College, Wal-Mart, Goodwill, Blackshear Place Library, and the Park & Ride Lot at the intersection of Atlanta Highway and Thurman Tanner Parkway.

The third route change will take place September 13, when Route 5 goes from a 60-minute service to a 30-minute service. This is the most popular Red Rabbit route and hits dozens of businesses, government and community organizations along Jesse Jewell Parkway from Memorial Park to Main Street.
