Softball: Win streak ends at three for Lady Elephants

GAINESVILLE -- The Gainesville girls softball team saw its tree-ame win treak come to an end Tuesday in a 8-3 loss to Lanier in Region 8B-AAA action.

The Lady Elephants (5-6, 1-3 in subregion) committed seven errors as just two of Lanier's runs were earned.

Katy Womack took the tough-luck loss for Gainesville, tossing 4 1/3 innings.

Melissa Latier had two hits for Gainesville. Sarah Hughs and Womack each had one hit. Womack, Natalie Allen, and Tieshia McMullen each one RBI for the Lady Elephants.

Lanier took a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning but Gainesville rallied with a run in the bottom of the frst and two more in the fourth to grab a 3-2 lead. But Lanier answered with four runs in the fifth and two in the sixth to retake the lead.

Gainesville next will tavel to Johnson on Thursday. Lanier (3-8, 1-2) will play host to Class AAA No. 1-ranked Oconee County Thursday.
