Gwinnett County police say the girl was went outside to play about 3:45.
Her parents reported her missing about two hours later. Shortly afterward, police initiated a "reverse 911" plan, alerting residents in the Princeton Oaks Drive area of Buford, by phone, about the missing girl.
That prompted a large number of residents of the subdivision to turn out to help search for Aniyah Mason. About 10:30, she was found, unharmed, playing in the yard of a house in the neighborhood.
