GAINESVILLE - Entering auto cases are at an all time high in Gainesville, according to Gainsville Police Officer Joe Britte.

"We feel that it's in the best interest of the community that we tell everybody to lock their doors and do not leave valuables locked in their vehicles," said Britte.

He said that in more than half the recent entering auto cases reported, the victims left their vehicles unlocked or unsecured with valuable items in plain view.

Britte also advises residents to park in a well-lighted and busy area whenever possible.

"It's a crime of opportunity," he said. "Folks are just looking for a quick dollar, and whatever they can get out of that vehicle to get a quick dollar, that's what they're going to do."
