BRASELTON -- A golf tournament is being held to honor slain boxing champion Vernon Forrest.

The first Vernon Forrest Memorial Golf Tournament tees off at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Chateau Elan in Braselton. It will benefit two youth boxing programs and the fighter's family.

Authorities say Forrest died in the early morning hours of July 26, 2009, after being robbed and shot just before midnight at a southwest Atlanta gas station. Three men are charged in his death.
