ATLANTA - The federal officials in charge of enforcing immigration laws in Georgia are refocusing their efforts on unlawful hiring and violent criminals in this country illegally.

A U.S. Department of Homeland Security report, cited by the Atlanta Journal- Constitution, says 480,000 "unauthorized immigrants" were living in the state as of January 2009... the sixth-highest number in the country.

The agency also says the change in tactics in combatting the problem in the state will now involve busting employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants and deporting violent criminals who are also illegal immigrants... with an emphasis on crimes such as murder, rape, and robbery.
