Robelle Reed a spokeswoman for the group questioned the commissioners about changing the original plans for the site from a trash drop off and public works facility to placing the jail facility there. After about 30 minutes of questions for the commissioners and others expressing their opposition, Reed called on the commissioners to hold a special public hearing on this issue. The commissioners agreed and set Monday August 16th at 5:00 PM as a date and time for the hearing.
County Commission Chairman Travis Turner said this will give the residents an opportunity to voice their opposition and get answers to their questions. The commissioners said no matter where they decide to locate the jail there will be someone who would have opposition to it.
In addition to the location issue resident John Jordan continued to voice his opposition to the cost of the new jail facility. For quite some time Jordan has voiced opposition to the new jail facility. Monday night he questioned the difference in the amount listed in the jail budget for inmate housing and figures given by the commissioners as they defend the need for the new facility.
