Woman shot during White Co. home invasion

CLEVELAND - A woman who was shot during a home invasion in White County over the weekend remain hospitalized Monday.

The White County Sheriff's Office says the incident occurred early Saturday morning on Max's Drive in Cleveland.

Capt. Jim Couch said the woman was awakened around 2:15 by a noise in the house. She got up and got a weapon. The victim encountered a man who was attempting to steal items from the residence, and a scuffle took place over the gun. Couch said during the scuffle the gun discharged.

The woman was shot in the hand and the bullet went into her stomach and exited her hip. She was take to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta by a life flight helicopter. Couch said she was listed in stable condition Monday morning.

A K-9 unit from Dawson County was used to try and locate the suspect but had no luck.
