GAINESVILLE - The Quinlan Visual Arts Center wants to add a sculpture garden to its Candler Street complex but first the idea must win approval from the Gainesville Historic Preservation Commission.

The arts center envisions an area that includes an outdoor classroom and program areas.

The sculpture garden would be located on the lot next to the arts center now occupied by the historic Apperson House.

The arts center wants to remove that dwelling... and it will seek permission to do so from the commission on August 9th. Meanwhile, commission members plan a "site visit" to the Apperson House on Tuesday.
