ATLANTA - The Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting a federal grand jury is looking into discussions between Nathan Deal and the state revenue commissioner over the former congressman's longtime business arrangement with the state.

The newspaper reported Wednesday that documents obtained through an open records request reveal a grand jury subpoenaed Revenue Commissioner Bart Graham to provide documents about a discussion he had with Deal.

The newspaper reported last year that Deal spoke with Graham and others about a state program that earned Deal's company nearly $300,000 a year.

Deal, who is in an Aug. 10 Republican runoff for governor, has said he did nothing wrong. Deal's attorney told the newspaper that Deal has not been subpoenaed and is not a target of the investigation. And, Deal echoed that statement in an interview Wednesday with the Associated Press. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Horn said his office does not comment on grand jury investigations. A call to the FBI was not immediately returned.
