NE Ga. schools superintendent quits

DANIELSVILLE - Madison County's schools superintendent has resigned after the county school board called a meeting to discuss his job amind reports of misconduct involving a woman described as a north Georgia educator.

Superintendent Mitch McGhee resigned Monday night. The meeting was called after an Athens attorney used an open records request to collect McGhee's work e-mails.
School board chairman Jim Patton says McGhee offered his resignation and will receive three months pay.

The board named Associate Superintendent Allen McCannon as interim superintendent of the 5,000-student school system.

McGhee said after the meeting that he regrets the controversy arising from his personal actions.
