GAINESVILLE - Citing the need for changes in order to increase their chances for success, the Gainesville Symphony Orchestra's board of directors has elected not to renew the contract of the current musical director.

GSO's Executive Director Candace Monnerie says executive management and the board of directors made the decision regarding Gregory Pritchard as part of their on-going process to reinvigorate the organization.

She says they are looking for a director who will act as a principal conductor and an arts advocate, among other things.

Monnerie says GSO conduct a national search for a replacement for Pritchard and will be auditioning several conductors during the upcoming season.

In an email announcing the decision, Monnerie wrote "People always say 'time changes everything'â
