ATLANTA -- Two football players for the University of Georgia have been arrested on alcohol-related offenses after similar charges prompted the resignation of the school's athletic director.

UGA Police Chief Jimmy Williamson said Dontavius Deshawn Jackson, a sophomore tailback, was charged early Saturday with driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and other offenses.

Split end Tavarres King was arrested for underage possession of alcohol.

Police said they initially stopped the Chevrolet Avalanche driven by Jackson for a traffic violation and because they suspected it was involved in an earlier hit-and-run accident.

The arrests come after UGA Athletic Director Damon Evans resigned following his arrest for drunken driving. Jackson did not return messages seeking comment. A phone listing for King was unavailable.
