Courtney Fuhrmann said Friday that disorderly conduct charges against her are a ``misunderstanding from what the media is portraying it as'' but declined to speak further.
Fuhrmann and Evans were arrested late Wednesday after a state trooper said he spotted Evans driving erratically.
He was charged with DUI and failure to maintain a lane. She was charged with disorderly conduct after police said she ignored warnings to stay inside the vehicle while the trooper was conducting the test.
Evans - who is married and has small children - apologized Thursday night and said he ``failed miserably.'' He said Fuhrmann was a friend. Evans is married and has small children. (See separate story.)
Meanwhile, UGA President Michael Adams has issued a statement saying he is "extremely disappointed" to hear of Evans' arrest.
"UGA Athletic Director Damon Evans informed me early this morning (Thursday morning) of his arrest and provided me an account of the events of last night (Wednesday night)," Adams said. "Drinking and driving is a serious matter, and I was extremely disappointed to hear of his arrest."
The statement goes on to say "Certainly this is not an example of the kind of leadership that I expect our senior administrators to set. I have high regard for Damon personally; I care deeply about him and his family and know him to be a man of integrity. He has sincerely apologized to me for the embarrassment this has brought upon the university. I was notified of this matter while away on vacation and will reserve further action pending a full review by staff and legal counsel."
