GAINESVILLE - A $3,120 grant from the USA Swimming Foundation will be used this summer to teach Gainesville Middle School students how to swim.

It is the second year in a row that the Gainesville School System and Parks and Recreation Department has received such a grant.

The money is made available through the USA Swimming Foundation's Local Partner Program and 2010 Make a Splash initiative.

The purpose of this grant is to promote water safety awareness for sixth graders.
