Lawson named to UGA foundation board

ATHENS - Gainesville native Sissy Lawson has been named to the UGA Foundation's Board of Trustees.

Emily Dunlap "Sissy" Lawson was unanimously elected to the board as the trustees completed their annual meeting recently.

A 1968 graduate of the University of Georgia, Lawson has the distinction of being the first woman mayor of Gainesville and served on the Gainesville City Council for 18 years.

In addition, she has volunteered with organizations including the First United Methodist Church of Gainesville, Elachee Nature Science Center, North Georgia Community Foundation, the State Botanical Garden and Habitat for Humanity.

Lawson's term of service on the UGA Foundation board begins Thursday and she
will serve on both the Audit & Governance and Development & Public
Affairs committees.
