COMMERCE - There were no injuries and only minor damage when a small fire struck a Commerce nursing home Wednesday afternoon.

Steve Nichols of Jackson County EMS said it happened about 3:45 at BJC Nursing Home on Medical Center Boulevard.

Units from the Commerce, Nicholson, Maysville, Jackson County Correctional Institute fire departments responded, along with a rescue squad from Commerce.

"Upon arrival units found smoke on the second flood," Nichols said. "Evacuation was started and the fire was contained to the point of origin and room. The fire was found to be electrical in nature and minor damage was incurred."

Emergency personnel were on the scene until about 5:00.
