GAINESVILLE - A manhunt was launched on the southside of Gainesville Tuesday morning following a city police traffic stop.
Gainesville police say it began when a motorist ran into woods in the Athens Highway/Monroe Drive/I-985 area.

Tracking dogs from the city and Hall County assisted in the search which began around 10:00 but the dogs and their handlers left the scene around noon after searching thick woods beside the highway.

Investigators checked the vehicle for evidence of why the motorist ran and are trying to determine the person's identity; the car had a White County license plate.
