ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Rangers have selected Georgia high school outfielder Jake Skole with their first pick in the baseball draft.

Skole was the 15th overall pick by Rangers, who have four of the first 49 picks Monday night. They also pick 22nd in the first round, with two more compensation picks after that.

Skole also played football at Blessed Trinity High in suburban Atlanta. The safety/receiver has committed to play both sports at Georgia Tech.

The 15th pick was compensation for the Rangers drafting but not signing pitcher Matt Purke in the first round last year. Purke now pitches for TCU.
Their other compensation picks were Nos. 45 and 49 overall, for losing Marlon Byrd and Ivan Rodriguez in free agency last winter.
