Hall County students named Robert C. Byrd Scholars

GAINESVILLE-Dr. Sally Krisel, Rigor Specialist for Hall County Schools, has announced that five (5) Hall County students earned the distinction of being named a Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholar for 2010.

The Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship is a $1500 federal grant awarded to an equal number of graduating seniors in each congressional district. Each high school in the state is allowed to nominate only one student, and those students are judged, based on academic achievement and demonstrated promise of future success (SAT, GPA and an essay). This year 19 scholarships were awarded in each congressional district. (Hall County students received 26% of the scholarships awarded in the Ninth Congressional District!)

Each of our Byrd Scholars, listed below, will receive a $1500 award (renewable for up to three additional years) to be used for tuition costs at any college they choose to attend (with the exception of U.S. Military Service Academies and foreign schools):
