GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School System has found a way to save thousands of dollars on fuel for its buses and has been approved for a $3 million interest-free bonding for upgrade classroom technology.

School officials did so by taking advantage of the European credit crisis, the resulting falling commodity prices and a strenghtening of the U.S. dollar and booked diesel futures to secure significant savings in fuel prices for the upcoming school year.

Purchases made for the months of August through November have resulted in savings to the general fund budget of over $200,000 alone.

TECHNOLOGY UPDATE FUNDS

The school district's $3 million request for interest-free bonding has been approved by a state commission.

The money, approved by the Georgia State Finance and Investment Commission, will be used to bring video conferencing capabilities to each of Hall County s 33 schools.
