BLAIRSVILLE - It began 60 years ago as Union County Bank... in one of the most isolated and least-populated parts of Georgia, at the foot of the Appalachian mountains.

A lot has changed since them - incuding the bank's name - but, the man who runs its say a lot has remained the same, most importanly: "We believe in community banks."

Jimmy Tallent is President and CEO of United Community Bank now a three-state, 27-bank company with 115 branches that continues to cling to that community bank concept.

The bank is still based in Blairsville, which like the bank, has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years.
