UNDATED - Evangelical leaders calling for comprehensive immigration reform say their pastors see firsthand the difficulties faced by immigrants who fear arrest and deportation.

The Rev. Leith Anderson, President of the National Association of Evangelicals, was joined by the Rev. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist Convention and other Christian leaders in a telephone news conference Wednesday.

They said reform should secure the U.S. border while offering illegal immigrants an earned path to citizenship that could involve paying a fine.

The Rev. Marcos Witt, who ministers to Hispanics at Houston's Lakewood Church -- the nation's largest -- called for an end to immigration raids that divide families.

Land said most illegal immigrants enter the U.S. to work, unlike American criminals who break the law so they won't have to work.
