UNDATED - Voter turnout in Hall County for Tuesday's special elections was better than expected.

Elections officials had predicted an 11 percent show at the polls but 18.46 percent of registered voters showed up.

In the 9th District congressional race, districtwide turnout ranged from about 9 prcent to nearly 19 percent.

In the heavily conservative district, the lone Democrat, Mike Freeman, who did not actively campaign, picked up more votes than two of the Republicans - Bill Stephens and Bert Loftman - and the lone Independent, Eugene Moon.

There were eight candidates in that race.
