GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Police Department plans to have a new precinct open in the next few weeks.

Space for the precinct in the Featherbone Building at 999 Chestnut Street was donated by Lanier Technical College which has its Manufacturing Development Center in the building. The school will also pick up the utilities for the 2,000 square feet the precinct will occupy.

But there is some work that needs to be done in the police will occupy, such as sheet-rocking the walls.

That's where the Home Depot stepped in, and donated just over $600 for the work.

The store was presented with a Certificate of Appreciation earlier this week during the Gainesville City Council meeting.
