GAINESVILLE - Brian Sloan qualified Thursday to run for a second term on the Hall County Board of Education.

Sloan, who is in his fourth year on the board, was the only candidate to qualify for a Hall County race Thursday, the next-to-last day to qualify. Qualifying ends at noon Friday.

Sloan will run in the July 20 Republican Primary.

Meanwhile, several more candidates - all Republicans - qualified Thursday for the 9th District Congressional race. The position is vacant following the resignation of Nathan Deal, who is running for governor. And, the 7th District congressional race has attracted a lot of candidates. That's the post John Linder is leaving after this year.
