GAINESVILLE - If you've noticed a few flocks of flamingos around the city of Gainesville lately, they are there for a very good cause.

The Guest House, an adult day care center, is celebrating its 25th anniversary, and the flamingos are part of the party.

"There's an information sheet explaining the flamingos and why they've landed, so that they can help spread information about The Guest House," said Executive Director Jocelyn Pryor.

Pryor said her board members came up with the idea of "flocking" area homes and businesses as a way to raise awareness about the mission of the non-profit group. It's also a way to raise money, since those who send the flocks to someone pay a fee. There's also a fee to have the plastic birds removed.

Pryor said in an interview this week on WDUN's The Local Hour that The Guest House offers senior adults a chance to participate in various activities outside of their homes and to socialize with peers. Plus, those services give caregivers some down time.

"The caregivers receive respite time and peace of mind knowing that their loved one is safe during the day," said Pryor.
