State Rep. Austin Scott introduced a resolution on Friday that would direct Attorney General Thurbert Baker to file a lawsuit. Scott, a Republican candidate for Governor, said the bill has 33 GOP sponsors including House Speaker David Ralston.
Gov. Sonny Perdue had asked Baker to sue over the healthcare bill. Baker refused, saying such a lawsuit stands little chance of succeeding. Perdue fired back Thursday saying he would appoint an outside lawyer as a special attorney general to file the suit.
But Scott said Friday that believes the Attorney General has "a constitutional responsibility" to pursue the legal challenge himself.
