OAKWOOD - A young man who was a pitcher for the West Hall High School baseball team has lost his fight with cancer.

19-year-old Brian Charles Ernst died Tuesday.

Last year, Ernst was recognized by the Gwinnett Braves when he was asked to throw out the first pitch at one of the team's home games.

Sam Borg, a coach and teacher at West Hall High School, said that the WHHS community is working on several ways to memorialize Brian, although no formal plans have been made yet.

"Right now is definitely still the grieving state," said Borg. "...grieving is very much on everybody's hearts and minds."

Funeral services for Brian Charles Ernst are scheduled for Friday, March 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Park South Funeral Home. Complete arrangements can be found on the obituary page for accessnorthga.com.
