Assisted suicide network members indicted in Cumming

ATLANTA - A Forsyth County grand jury has indicted four members of an assisted suicide group who authorities say aided in the deaths of dozens of people.

The grand jury indicted Thomas E. Goodwin, the Final Exit Network's former president, Dr. Lawrence D. Egbert, the organization's medical director, Nicholas Alec Sheridan, a regional coordinator, and Claire Blehr, a member.

The four were arrested in February 2009 and charged with assisted suicide in the aftermath of the 2008 death of 58-year-old John Celmer at his northest Georgia home.

Forsyth County District Attorney Penny Penn says the grand jury indicted the four on charges of offering to assist in the commission of suicide, tampering with evidence and a violation of the state anti-racketeering laws.
