GAINESVILLE - A young man was rescued from a creek on the west side of Gainesville Tuesday after his SUV skidded on a snowy road and plunged into the water in a winter weather related noon time accident.

In the 2100 block of Dixie Drive the motorist got out of his vehicle and the creek with the help of Hall County Fire Service personnel. The driver stood with snowfall pelting him and muddy pants as he talked to a Hall County Sheriff's deputy and a Georgia State patrolman.

He declined to identify himself at the scene, but did say he's not used to driving in snow and while apparently distracted by the winter weather, his car left the road while he was coming down a hill and around a curve. He was not seriously injured.

The motorist reportedly called 911 while still in his vehicle, telling them that he was in the water and needed help getting out.
