GAINESVILLE - United Way of Hall County is going to be "taking it to the streets" to say thanks for making 2009 a successful year despite the recession.

Instead of a mass email to all of its known supporters and volunteers or using the media to say thanks to all those who contributed last year, United Way is using a new tactic to reach as many people as possible.

So, Wednesday morning, from 7:45 to 8:15, volunteers will line up along four heavily-traveled spots around Hall County -- Green Street in Gainesville, Quillians Corner in North Hall, Mundy Mill Road in Oakwood, and Spout Springs Road in Flowery Branch - to greet commuters.

The "Taking It To the Streets" campaign will happen rain or shine, and officials ask that drivers honk or wave as they pass by the groups.
