GAINESVILLE - The Hall County School Board opened a two-part retreat Friday night with an update on several technology "catalyst" pilots.

These are initiatives that are encouraging new and innovative use of the latest teaching tools, according to school officials.

Tiffani Poole, a Chestatee High School junior, updated the board on research she recently completed regarding the state of technology utilization in the county school system.

The Friday night session was opened by 12 high school students representing the six traditional high schools in the county.

"These students are incredible. I think it is safe to say the board and I were blown away by their presence, knowledge and grasp of what it takes to be successful in the world we live in," Supt. Will Schofield said.

The retreat, which is being held at school board offices in Gainesville, will continue Saturday morning when the focus will be on current budget and facility issues.
