GAINESVILLE - Gainesville City Council is planning to build a new Fire Station Number #2) when money is available.

Council members went ahead Tuesday and agreed to buy a lot on Piedmont Road next to the old fire house for planned expansion following a recommendation from City Manager Kip Padgett.

"This is a piece of property beside Fire Station Number (2)," Padgett said. "That fire station has got some age on it and will need to be replaced or remodeled at some point."

The resolution Council members approved also called for a swap of land fronting Queen City Parkway at Banks Street for a right of way with a payment to the owner of $82,000.
