The number of payroll jobs increased by 7,000, from 3,842,500 in October to 3,849,500 in November. Most of the increases came in retail trade, professional and business services, and educational and health services.
The number of jobs remains 5,100 below the number in November 2009.
Labor Commissioner Michael Thurmond says the unemployment rate is up because of increases in new layoffs and in the number of long-term unemployed.
Thurmond says the long-term unemployed now account for 53.7 percent of the 469,702 jobless workers in Georgia. Long-term unemployed are those who have been out of work for 27 weeks or longer.
