"The Obama administration is committed to providing communities with the resources they need to foster job creation and business growth," said U.S. Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Economic Development John Fernandez. "Enhancing Jefferson's existing infrastructure will diversify the region's economy, creating new manufacturing and retail job opportunities."
"The City of Jefferson, the County seat of Jackson County, is elated to have the partnership with the Economic Development Administration in the award of a grant to assist in the improvement and expansion of the water treatment facility," Mayor Jim Joiner said. "These enhancements to the water system will make possible the accommodation of the ALDI and Systemax projects, which will initially provide over 450 new jobs for our area."
Joiner also said the project will insure "adequate water and fire protection for our citizens, business and industries and will certainly result in diversity and stability in the workforce and substantially enhance the city's future business recruitment efforts. The partnership with EDA is much appreciated in making this project possible."
