UNDATED - The International Thespian Society (ITS), a division of the Educational Theatre Association (EdTA), just completed the eighth year of its national community service initiative, Trick or Treat So Kids Can Eat (TOTS-EAT).

Thespian troupes from Gainesville High School, West Hall High School, and White County High School helped make this year s TOTS-EAT program a success by collecting 162 pounds of food for local charitable food programs. They were among 319 Thespian troupes from 38 states collecting a record-breaking total of 348,065 pounds of canned and non-perishable food in this year s campaign. This beat last year s record of more than 332,700 pounds collected.

"In this difficult economy, our troupes were still able to collect another record-breaking amount of food for the less fortunate," says TOTS-EAT Campaign Chair Ginny Utz. "The enthusiasm generated by this initiative is encouraging. We receive an incredible amount of positive feedback every year from food banks whose shelves were nearly empty, troupe directors brimming with pride, and students who are so excited that they cannot wait to submit their totals. So many individuals benefit from TOTS-EAT and it s all thanks to our Thespians and their troupe directors. Even with a myriad of responsibilities to which they are committed, they still make time to take an active interest in the well-being of their communities. Thespians demonstrate the positive attitude and work ethic we should all strive toward."
