GAINESVILLE - Hall County's chief tax appraiser has resigned effective December 1.

Mike Henderson has accepted a similar position in Walton County, according to county spokeswoman Nikki Young. Henderson has worked for the Hall County Board of Tax Assessors since 1998 and as chief appraiser since June 2005.'

But his tenure has not been without controversy.

Two years ago, the board of assessors reprimanded Henderson, after he was accused of receiving a homestead exemption on land where he did not live, owing almost $900 in back county taxes, and using a county vehicle for personal reasons.

The job vacancy will be posted immediately, according to Young, and will be filled through normal recruitment processes.
