White County Sheriff Department Spokesman Captain Jim Couch said, "This re-certification process is mandated by Georgia law and has to be performed on an annual basis." The Sheriff's Office has twenty-two radar units and three LIDAR (laser) devices that are utilized by Deputies for speed detection.
Couch said, all units were found to be in compliance with state law and in the event that any device failed this re-certification that device would be taken out of service and repaired, before placed back in service, with the agency. The cost for this service is a part of the Sheriff's Office annual fiscal budget.
