GAINESVILLE - Wells Fargo managers and team members have chosen 12 non-profits in the Gainesville area for grants as part of the first Days of Giving program in the area.

The following groups are receiving $1,000 checks:

American Russian Services Foundation Inc.
Boys and Girls Clubs of Hall County
Challenged Child and Friends
Eagle Ranch
Glory, Hope and Life
Gwinnett Children's Shelter
Habitat for Humanity of Hall County
March of Dimes
My Sisters Place
No One Alone
Our Neighborhood Inc.
Piedmont CASA

Team members in the company's 278 bank stores across Georgia selected and recognized groups that are delivering "vital services" in their areas, according to Wells Fargo officials.

The donations to the groups are being distributed at community events in each local area. It is the first initiative of its kind in the area, Wells Fargo says, and the program allows the company to reach more groups than before.

The twelve groups are being honored in the Gainesville area will be spotlighted at a breakfast meeting today at the Frances Meadow Aquatic Center.

The Days of Giving program came about as a result of the merger of Wells Fargo and Wachovia, said Glen Kelley, community bank president for North Georgia. The contributions help mark the changeover of Wachovia financial centers to Wells Fargo bank stores across the state in late October.

"A hallmark of Wells Fargo is local decision-making and local involvement," said J.D. Mealor, business banking area manager in Gainesville. "We'll continue to make grants of all sizes, but through Days of Giving we're connecting with local communities in a whole new way."
