GAINESVILLE - Starting Monday, the "no smoking" sign will go up at all Hall County trash compactor sites and the landfill. The ban will include the use of tobacco in any form.

The county's Solid Waste Division decided to prohibit smoking and tobacco use after the Hall County Correctional Institution on Sept. 1 implemented a smoke-free/tobacco-free policy, which includes all inmates, staff, employees, visitors and others.

Because the Solid Waste Division uses inmate labor, it made sense to go ahead and move this forward in our division, as well, according to county spokeswoman Nikki Young.

Smoking is prohibited throughout the workplace for Hall County employees and is confined to designated areas.
