GAINESVILLE - Final plans are being made for the opening of the new Gainesville Public Safety Building (PSB).

For instance, the police department's "front office operations," now in the old facility of Jesse Jewell Parkway, will close Thursday and Friday, October 28 and 29, as part of plan to re-open in the new building Monday, Nov. 1. No police reports or records will be issued on these days.

The department will be open on Jesse Jewell Wednesday, Oct. 27, but alcohol employee work permits will not be issued.

The new PSB, on Queen City Parkway, will also house fire department headquarters, municipal court and serve as the meeting place for the City Council starting in January.

The council recently got its first official look at the new complex. (See earlier story.)
