Buford whips Avondale, sets up showdown with GAC

BUFORD -- Alex Ross tossed two first quarter touchdown passes and Darrian Smith ran for two scores in the second quarter as Class AA No. 3 Buford hammered outmanned Avondale 48-2 Friday night at Tom Riden Stadium.

The Wolves (7-1, 3-0 Region 6A-AA) scored on their first seven possession of the game through the first three quarters. They held Avondale to just 107 total yards and the only score for the Blue Devils (2-5, 1-1) came on a safety on a bad punt snap late in the fourth quarter.

Ross connected on 55-yard pass to Dillon Lee on Buford's first possession and then hit Trey Jerkins on a 50-yard strike on their next possession for a 14-0 lead just three minutes into the game.

In the second quarter Smith sandwiched scoring runs o 7 and 3-yards around a 6-yard touchdown run by Seon Jones as the Wolves built a 35-0 halftime lead. In the third quarter, Ryan Mack, who led Buford with 75-yards rushing on just three carries, scored on runs of 52 and 21 to cap the scoring for Buford.

Buford next will travel to take on Greater Atlanta Christian (6-1, 2-0) in a showdown for the subregion title.
