8-AAA: Franklin, Walnut Grove join Oconee, White County in semis

CARNESVILLE - Things went true to form in Region 8-AAA as the top four seeds all advanced to the upcoming Class AAA state playoffs.

No. 1-ranked Oconee County and No. 8 White County both received automatic bids by virtue of winning their respective subregions.

Franklin County and No. 2 Walnut Grove advanced with two-game sweeps in the second Wednesday.

Walnut Grove cruised past Monroe Area 10-0 and 11-0 at home while Franklin County moved in to the semifinals beating newcomer Lanier 3-2 and 10-1 at home in a pair of best-of-three series.

The tournament now moves to the Lanier Point Complex in Gainesville for a double-elimination round Saturday. The action begins at 10 a.m. with Oconee County taking on Franklin County and Walnut Grove playing White County.
White County pitcher Callie McDonald is expected to see action Saturday in the Region 8-AAA softball tournament.
