BUFORD - Gwinnett County police stopped a car on I-85 near Hamilton Mill Wednesday night for a tag violation and wound up confiscating crack cocaine from the vehicle.

Police said a Chevrolet Aveo was traveling northbound on the interstate around 9:00 p.m. when an officer noticed the problem with the car tag. As the officer interviewed the two suspects in the vehicle, he became suspicious and asked for permission to search the vehicle. He said when he smelled marijuana, he called in a K-9 unit to assist.

A search of the vehicle lead to discovery of seven ounces of crack cocaine concealed behind a spare tire in the trunk of the car. The estimated street value of the drugs is $20,800.

Authorities arrested 22-year-old Kenzale Wise of Lithonia and 22-year-old Taquilla Hart of an unknown address. In addition to drug charges, Wise was charged with providing a false name to officers. Hart was charged with obstruction. At last report, both remain in the Gwinnett County Jail.
