8-AA: Jefferson, Dawson still alive, Banks out

JEFFERSON -- The Jefferson girls softball team stayed alive in the Region 8-AA Tournament Tuesday with a 10-2 win over Oglethorpe County in the loser's bracket.

The Lady Dragons (22-8-1) opened the day with a tough 8-0 loss to Dawson County to drop into the loser's bracket. Morgan McKinney took the loss for Jefferson.

Against Oglethorpe County, Anna Alexander and Lindsey Miles each had two hits and three RBI to lead the Lady Dragons to the win. McKinney got the win striking out six and allowing just six hits.

Jefferson next will play the loser of the North Oconee-Fannin County game Thursday at 5 p.m. at North Oconee.

In other 8-AA action at Fannin County, the host Lady Rebels knocked off Banks County to advance in the winners bracket. Fannin next will play top-seed North Oconee at 1 p.m. Thursday at North Oconee.

Jackson County then eliminated Banks County with an 8-1 win in the losers bracket. The Lady Panthers next will take on the Union County-Dawson County loser at 7 p.m. Thursday at North Oconee.
